The whole world has started to get excited about 3D films. Since the release of the amazing ‘Avatar’ and the large list of films that followed in the same format, some commentators have speculated on the arrival date for 3D TV. Maybe I missed something, while I was not looking, but certainly on TV we have not fully begun to explore the fantastic opportunities that HD TV has brought into our comfortable and warm front rooms.

The flat screen revolution was supposed to contain more than just thinner TVs, there was the possibility of sharper detail and improved sound quality. Most of these TVs have a high definition capability. The concept of buying a DVD that is in HD, is an easy idea to accept but when it comes to receiving TV in HD I think we have been very slow to grasp its amazing potential. We can improve our watching experience, vastly, by switching to HD and most of the program providers now have high definition channels.

The UK television market has many different players in it and options for the consumer are many. The Sky TV packages are bundled and that allows customers to select what they need whether it is sport and movies or children’s channels and high definition. The Virgin HD box is currently being offered as an add on to most of their packages and if one were to select their extra-large TV package they only charge you a one off fee for the HD box and then it is free to use every month. The Sky HD box is being offered free to all new customers that sign up to the Sky HD+ package. All the incentives are there for us to include wonderful picture quality in our normal TV viewing experience.

The 3D revolution will be along soon but let’s get with the program and bring HD into our lives first.
